Trucking Company Wisdom from DTS Veterans

There’s no substitute for experience. DTS has over thirty years’ experience in the transportation industry, and has grown in that time to service customers across the United States and into Western Canada. We wanted to talk with some of our dedicated employees to find out how the voice of their experience speaks through DTS, and we’ve uncovered some true pearls of wisdom.

“Any day that you can’t learn something is a day wasted. Be willing to work with others and learn from them. And when it comes to driving, driving isn’t a passive event, it needs focus and a desire to be safe.”
– Frank, 17 years with DTS, 44 years in the trucking industry

In the year 1159, John of Salisbury wrote in his Metalogicon: “Bernard of Chartres used to compare us to dwarfs perched on the shoulders of giants. He pointed out that we see more and farther than our predecessors, not because we have keener vision or greater height, but because we are lifted up and borne aloft on their gigantic stature.” No matter our profession, or how long we’ve been in an industry, we’ve all got things yet to learn. Frank embodies this axiom in the ethic he applies to each day working at DTS.

“Being a logistics specialist is a fast-paced and challenging career. Success in this industry requires a good work ethic, attention to detail, patience, and flexibility. Great co-workers, communication and teamwork are a must when situations get hectic. I have been at DTS for 24 years and counting, in an industry that literally never stops moving.”
– Sheila, 30 years with DTS Companies

Calvin Coolidge, the 30th President of the United States famously said, “No man has ever listened himself out of a job.” At DTS, we sink or swim as a team. Team players like Sheila understand that patience, thoughtfulness, and careful attention to the needs of others are the essence of teamwork.

“Working here has taught me that no delivery is too small or too big. We have delivered everything from a five-pound package of medical supplies to the Highline, to three firetrucks and firefighting supplies to help the firefighters in Florida.”
– Shirley, 30 years with DTS Companies

Henry Ford, one of the titans of twentieth century industry, said, “It is not the employer who pays the wages. Employers only handle the money. It is the customer who pays the wages.” Meeting the customer where they’re at and making their needs into our own – regardless of the size of the job – is what has always enabled DTS to excel in the transportation industry. We’ve built entire lines of business to meet the needs of a specific customer, and our can-do spirit is a big part of why our customers choose us over the competition.

One of the things we say around here is ‘The Best Drive DTS’. Sure, we’re a transportation company and one could take the above to be a pithy driver recruitment slogan, but the truth is much deeper. In fact, everyone who works for DTS is bringing their talents and expertise to bear upon solving problems and delivering value to our valued customers. We all usher DTS into the future, animated by the driving principles of today: humility, teamwork, and an unparalleled customer focus.
